As the first half of the Teamfight Tactics Gizmos & Gadgets expansion winds down, many regions have already celebrated the halfway point with their own big tournaments. Not wanting to be left out, the three major Asian regions are also holding a big event. The TFT Asian Cup brings together the best players from Japan, China and South Korea to fight for pride and a cash prize during the weekend of Feb. 12-13. Here are all the details needed to tune in.

Format

The TFT Asian Cup tournament will have two days of competition. Day 1 will be the play-in stage. The eight players playing on Day 1 will compete against each other in a single lobby over five games. Players will be playing for points that will be awarded based on placement after each individual game. The point system is a simple but standard distribution. The first place player in each game will receive eight points, second place will receive seven, third will receive six and so on. After the end of the five game series, the four players with the most points will advance to Day 2 which is the finals.

The top four players from Day 1 will meet the four players who automatically qualified for Day 2. This time players will have their Day 1 points reset back to zero and instead of playing a five-game series, the finals will be played using the “checkmate” format. In this format, players will still earn points for placement in each individual game played, but there is no set amount of games. Instead, players will race against each other to meet a point threshold which will put players in “check” once they hit it. After that, if a player that is in check wins a game, the tournament is over and the player who won that game is crowned the winner. If a game ends with a player winning that is not in check, the tournament continues until there is.

The point distribution in the finals is different than in Day 1. In Day 2, players who win a game will be rewarded 10 points, second will earn eight, third will earn six, fourth will earn five and so forth. The point threshold is 18 points, so a first and a second-place finish in the first two games could theoretically put a player in check heading into Game 3.
