Treyarch released a surprising new update for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War earlier today: the R1 Shadowhunter Crossbow. The gameplay trailer for Season 2 teased this unique weapon and the official roadmap revealed it as well. However, there had been no announcement in regards to its release.
Crossbows in Call of Duty have become quite popular. The weapon has been featured in titles dating back to the original Black Ops. Although it’s not a viable weapon for high-kill games or competitive play, it’s an enjoyable tool to use in a wide array of situations.
Unlocking the R1 Shadowhunter in Season 2
While fans weren’t expecting the crossbow to arrive today, it’s now available to unlock in Black Ops Cold War. There’s a single challenge associated with unlocking the weapon. But, as soon as that’s complete, the R1 Shadowhunter is free to use in both multiplayer and zombies.
Once the newest update in Black Ops Cold War is downloaded, players should see the R1 Shadowhunter appear in the “Special” weapons tab. However, if it’s not present, players can try closing the application and launch it again.
For players that see it within Create-A-Class, there’s a single challenge that’s viewable. The challenge reads “Using a weapon with no attachments, get 3 One Shot, One Kill medals in 15 different matches.” The crossbow will unlock and become available once players have completed this feat.
The R1 Shadowhunter is an option in both multiplayer and zombies. For the latter, the weapon is even able to be pack-a-punched, as YouTuber PrestigeIsKey shows off.
For the weapon itself, there are only four attachments available to equip, all being sights. Three of the sights are meant for close-range combat but the Hawksmoor is slightly more efficient at medium-range.
For those on the fence about unlocking the R1 Shadowhunter, early reports indicate that the crossbow is fun to use in both multiplayer and zombies.
