How to turn the Flashbang color from white to black in Modern Warfare 3

Never blind yourself again

If you have ever been hit with a Flashbang in Call of Duty, either an enemy’s or your own, then you know just how blinding the white light can be when it occurs. Luckily in Modern Warfare 3, you are actually able to make that blinding white a dark black so you don’t have to shield your eyes when a Flashbang hits.

This option, called Inverted Flashbang, became available as a setting over the course of Modern Warfare 2 and has remained in MW3. However, if you didn’t play MW2 or simply didn’t know the option existed, you absolutely need to know where to enable it so you don’t have to be blinded any longer.

Here’s how to find and enable the Inverted Flashbang option in MW3 in the guide below.

Turning on Inverted Flashbang in Modern Warfare 3

Inverted Flashbang is an extremely simple setting to find and change, so follow the steps below to turn your Flashbang hits from white to black:

  • Navigate to the main lobby screen of MW3
  • Look at the top right of the screen and click on the cog icon (Settings)
  • In Settings, go to the Graphics tab
  • In Graphics, go to the “View” tab and scroll all the way down until you see the option for Inverted Flashbang. It will be the last option in this section.
  • By default, this will turned off. You want to turn the option to “On”
  • This makes it so whenever a Flashbang hits you, your screen will turn black instead of white

And that’s all there is to changing the Flashbang color in MW3. You can enable and disable this option any time you want, but I recommend leaving it on for the sake of your eyes.

Remember, though, in MW3 you can completely negate the effects of Flashbangs by turning away from them. So if you see one is coming, turn the opposite way, and your screen won’t turn any color, it will just deal a little damage.

If you can master this, then you never have to worry about your screen turning another color ever again. I would still leave Inverted Flashbang enabled, though, just in case. It might be a bit jarring to see a black screen instead of a white one, but I promise you get used to it and your eyes will thank you for that.
