One of the many new additions to multiplayer in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is called Tactical Stance. This is a new way to aim your weapon when standing and sliding. When toggled on, it turns your weapon sideways and offers increased movement speed in exchange for a loss of accuracy.
If you’re standing, you have the option to toggle Tactical Stance on and off, allowing you to control when you use the mechanic. However, when you’re sliding and aiming at the same time, your weapon will turn to the side no matter what you do. If you’re not a fan of the new Tactical Stance mechanic, there are actually a couple of ways to turn it off entirely in Modern Warfare 3.
You can read the guide below to see exactly how to do that.
Ways to turn off Tactical Stance in Modern Warfare 3
There are two different ways to ensure you almost never see your character use Tactical Stance in MW3. The first way allows you to remove the option to use it while standing or walking. If you have Tactical Stance on, you see the “Press – for Tactical Stance” appear in the middle of the screen when you’re aiming down sights, which can be quite annoying. It’s also frustrating to accidentally press the button to go into Tactical Stance when you don’t want to.
Luckily, there is a way to remove the Tactical Stance option altogether. This gets rid of the prompt on-screen and makes it so whatever buttons you press, you will never go into Tactical Stabce. To do this, go into the Controller settings of MW3. From here, navigate to the Gameplay tab at the top of the screen and then scroll down until you see “Tacitcal ADS Activation.” Select this option and set it to “Off.”
This completely removes the Tactical Stance prompt and activation buttons, allowing you to never accidentally use the mechanic.
However, even with this option turned off, you will still use Tactical Stance by default when sliding and aiming at the same time. While there’s no way to completely turn this off, you can greatly mitigate the time your character uses Tactical Stance when sliding and aiming. To do that, you need to use the Tactical Pads, which are a pair of Boots you can equip on your loadout.
With the Tactical Pads equipped, you will barely go into Tactical Stance when sliding and aiming at the same time. Instead, your character will just put the gun up normally, for the most part. If you slide for a long duration and aim down sights the whole time, you will see a small window of Tactical Stance. However, if you slide cancel, you won’t see Tactical Stance at all.
And those are the two ways to completely eliminate the Tactical Stance mechanic from Modern Warfare 3. However, I recommend leaving Tac-Stance enabled when you’re going for camo challenges in multiplayer.
Some of the challenges require you to get a certain number of Tac-Stance kills, which you can’t do if you have the mechanic disabled through the settings. You can read about the best way to go for Tac-Stance kills in my previous guide, but, of course, you need to have it enabled. So I suggest turning Tac-Stance off if you’re not going for camos but if you are, then leaving it enabled is likely the smarter choice.
