How to shoot down helicopters in MW3 Zombies

You'll need to hunt for a specific Contract

The “Crash and Burn” mission is a Tier 2 mission in Act 3 of Call of Duty MW3 Zombies, requiring you to shoot down three helicopters. While this might sound simple in theory, in practice it can be quite difficult, especially if you don’t know how to spawn enemy helicopters.

Luckily, there are a few different ways to find helicopters in Zombies and you can spawn them rather easily. They are not shot down with ease, though, as you’ll need a powerful weapon or two to bring the chopper down before it either leaves or kills you.

To see exactly how to spawn and shoot down helicopters in MW3 Zombies, keep reading my guide below.

Let’s start with the easiest and perhaps most well-known way of spawning helicopters in Zombies. If you remember a certain mission from Act 2 in Zombies, you’ll remember that you needed to shoot down a helicopter after starting a “Deliver Cargo” Contract. Starting a Deliver Cargo Contract always spawns a helicopter after you drive the vehicle out of the garage.

However, the problem with this contract is that the helicopter will continually fire at your vehicle until it’s dead or you’ve reached your destination and completed the contract. This doesn’t give you enough time to shoot down the helicopter. Luckily, you can simply drive your vehicle back into the garage you came from once the helicopter has spawned. This will make it so the helicopter never leaves and doesn’t target you, giving you all the time in the world to shoot at it and destroy it.

To recap, here’s what you need to do to always spawn a helicopter and ensure you can shoot it down via the Deliver Cargo Contract:

  • Start a Deliver Cargo Contract on the map
  • Drive the vehicle out of the garage until you hear that a helicopter is chasing you
  • Drive the vehicle fully back into the garage
  • Get out and start shooting the helicopter that is above the garage
  • Rinse and repeat until you have shot down three helicopters

I recommend at least using a Pack-A-Punched weapon to shoot at the helicopter, as base weapons don’t deal a ton of damage. Either way, this is by far the most reliable method of finding and shooting down helicopters in MW3 Zombies.

If there are no Deliver Cargo Contracts left on the map, though, your next best alternative is to go to The Fortress located in the Medium Threat Zone. Once you reach the outskirts of The Fortress, a powerful attack chopper will spawn and try to kill you. This is a guaranteed way to find an enemy chopper to shoot down, but this one is extremely strong and has a ton of health. I only suggest using this method if you’re desperate for a helicopter and have some strong gear.
