How to get penetration kills for camo challenges in MW3

An extremely frustrating camo challenge

One of the more difficult camo challenges you have to complete in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 calls for penetration kills. Penetration kills are usually associated with the light machine gun class in MW3, and they call for you to kill enemies through a surface.

While this might sound simple, it’s not as easy as you might think at first glance. If you have already tried going for the penetration kills but have come up short, then you know just how frustrating they can be. Luckily, I was able to get all of my LMGs Gilded (and Forged for that matter), so I know the best ways to get penetration kills in MW3.

To see how to get these types of kills, check out the guide below.

First and foremost, you need to set up your loadout the correct way. There’s one key attachment you want to ensure you have equipped before even thinking about going for any penetration kills. That attachment is in the Ammunition slot and it’s any option that has a boost to “Bullet Penetration.” The best Ammunition that offers the largest increase in bullet penetration is Armor Piercing Rounds, but some guns don’t have that option.

Once you have your Ammunition selected, build out your loadout however you want and then hop into a match. Preferably, go into an objective-based game mode, as these tend to go on longer and give you more chances to earn penetration kills. I would not recommend going into the War mode, though, as I found there simply aren’t enough spots to go for penetration kills on the Operation Spearhead map.

While you can try out any of the 16 multiplayer maps to get penetration kills, the best maps I found to play on are:

  • Scrapyard
  • Terminal
  • Highrise

These three maps all have superb bullet penetration spots you can use to your advantage. On Scrapyard and Highrise, I highly recommend going to areas with fences. If you shoot through a fence and kill an enemy, that counts as a penetration. On Scrapyard, you can head to where the B Domination flag is located, stand on the ramp side, and shoot through the fence there. On Highrise, go to mid-map and use the various fences around the helipad to shoot at enemies. Finally, Terminal offers the plane, which you can easily shoot through and get penetration kills all game long.

You will know if you successfully get a penetration kill if the yellow “Wall Bang” text pops up after killing an enemy. You can use the special Ammunition and the three maps I listed above to breeze through the penetration kills camo challenge in MW3.
