How to get Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble with their Hidden Abilities

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Pokémon Sword and Shield players can finally obtain the three Galar starting Pokémon with their Hidden Abilities. This is the first time that players can get Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble with these rare abilities. Here’s how you go about doing it.

The three starters

Pokémon Home is an app for both the Nintendo Switch and mobile where players can store their Pokémon. Players will need to have this app on both platforms along with a Nintendo Switch Online membership to claim their own Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble.

To get them, transfer a Pokémon from a copy of Sword or Shield to Pokémon Home on the Nintendo Switch. Once you do this, open the mobile Pokémon Home app and click the green menu button on the bottom of the screen. Then, click “Mystery Gifts” and select the “Gift Box” option. You will be able to claim the three starters from here, and they will be added to Home boxes. From there, you can transfer them to Pokémon Sword or Shield.

The Hidden Abilities

Here are the Hidden Abilities for each of the three Galar starters:

  • Grookey: Grassy Surge – Creates Grassy Terrain when it enters the battle.
  • Scorbunny: Libero – Changes its type to the type of the last move it used.
  • Sobble: Sniper – Increases the damage it deals with critical hits from 150% to 225%.

These new abilities could very well make each of these Pokémon a lot stronger. Remember that by breeding with these abilities, their offspring can also get their Hidden Abilities. Players can then trade them to help other players out who don’t have a way to get them.

Make sure to take advantage of this offer. There’s no telling whether there will be another way to get Grookey, Scorbunny, or Sobble with their Hidden Abilities in the future.
