How to fix ‘Not enough system memory available’ error in Enshrouded

There is a workaround.

Enshrouded is blazing on in early access and each day there are more players jumping into this survival experience for the first time. One thing that some may notice is a scary error stating there is “not enough system memory available.”

This has been appearing since the game got its first major update, and as you’d expect it has been causing problems for some players. Fortunately, there is a quick and easy way to get around it and jump back into Enshrouded immediately.

Right now there is only one way that you can stop the System Memory Error from occurring, but it isn’t a permanent fix to the problem. This is by adding new code to Enshrouded’s Steam launch options.

If you add “–disable-ram-check” to the Steam launch options for the game (without quotation marks) the game will be forced to boot without checking your system memory and as a result, you will not get the error. The problem with this solution is that if your system has lower system memory than required, you may experience other issues once in the game.

To use this temporary solution follow these steps:

  1. Open Steam and right-click on Enshrouded
  2. Choose Properties
  3. Scroll down to find Launch Options
  4. Type “–disable-ram-check” into the provided text box
  5. Close the window
  6. Start Enshrouded

This should be everything you need to do so that the error message no longer shows up and you should be able to play Enshrouded as normal.

Now that you can play it’s a matter of waiting to see if Keen Games chooses to change the RAM requirements for Enshrouded or roll out a patch that will stop the error from showing up for players. Regardless, if your computer doesn’t meet the minimum specs for Enshrouded we’d suggest considering an upgrade so that you don’t have issues in the future.
