How to fix error code 14515 in MW3

Nothing is more frustrating than hopping online to play some Call of Duty and being met with an error code before you can even log in. That’s what many players are experiencing in MW3 with error code 14515.

This error appears when you attempt to launch the COD HQ application and sign into your online profile. During this process, a message pops up that states: “Failed to start matchmaking, please retry the operation. Error code: 14515.” If you have been stuck on this error code and can’t seem to get around it, then check out the guide below for some fixes that have been confirmed to work for other MW3 players.

First and foremost, I suggest relaunching the COD HQ application two or three times before trying anything else too drastic. This usually works with other error codes, such as the Travis-Rilea error, so you might as well restart your game to see if that gets rid of error code 14515.

If you have already done that or it didn’t work, then check the list below for some more concrete fixes:

  • Restart your entire console or system and then attempt to relaunch COD HQ and sign in
  • Check the game server status of MW3 or COD in general by going to the COD Updates Twitter or checking the Down Detector website page dedicated to COD
  • Check your internet connection to ensure it’s working properly. You can also try and power cycle your internet router/modem by unplugging its power source, waiting 1-2 minutes, and then plugging it back in.
  • As a last resort, uninstall and reinstall the COD HQ application.

If nothing from that list works, then you will have to simply wait for a fix from the developers or reach out to Activision Support to see what might be causing the issue on your end. You can reach Activision Support through their website and submit a ticket that explains your issue.

Of course, you can also simply choose to wait for the developers to issue a patch that fixes the problem. It’s never clear when a patch like that would arrive, though, so I can’t say for sure how long it’s going to take.
