It has already been six years since Hearthstone first released its open beta on March 11, 2014. To celebrate what the game has evolved into since, Blizzard has revealed several aspects of its Hearthstone anniversary event, Spirit of Competition. Included in the event are the return of several Tavern brawls, free packs, and much more to come.

Free card packs for Spirit of Competition
To celebrate Hearthstone turning six years this week, merely logging into Hearthstone grants players a total of six card packs — two packs of each of the recent expansions, being Rise of Shadows, Saviors of Uldum, and Descent of Dragons. These packs are available for all players on each server. Alongside these login rewards, the new Year of the Dragon commemorative card back is also granted. For those who play on several servers, be sure to log into all of them between today and March 17 at 10 a.m. PT.
Besides the six initial free card packs, there are five more card packs up for grabs. These card packs can be earned through Spirit of Competition event quests, granted in addition to the daily quests of Hearthstone:
- March 4th, 10:00 AM PT: Play 2 games in any mode to earn a Descent of Dragons card pack.
- March 5th, 10:00 AM PT: Play 20 cards to earn a Rise of Shadows and Saviors of Uldum card pack.
- March 6th, 10:00 AM PT: Take 30 turns to earn a Rise of Shadows and Saviors of Uldum card pack.
The celebration Tavern Brawls
There are two tavern brawls available with the six-year anniversary Spirit of Competition event. The first is the return of the Burndown! Brawl. The Burndown is a favorite among the community. Each player, when they first enter the Tavern, is granted a random deck of cards. After each match, the loser of the series is given the deck of the winner. In the end, one of the decks will reign supreme in the Tavern Brawl and be the last deck standing.
The second is the Hall of Champions Brawl. In the Hall of Champions Brawl, players will be able to play decks from the winners of the Hearthstone World Championships. Some of the decks played by the world champions have since been changed. To make up for this, the pre-balance update versions of these decks are available to play in the Hall of Champions Brawl. A community favorite previously was Pavel’s Malygos Rogue deck.
