Grand Prix will be in Modern Warfare 2 at launch, claims leaker

Grand Prix is on track for launch

Around the time of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta, some controversy arose around the previously revealed map, Grand Prix. Activision showcased this map at CDL Champs in August, saying it would be playable during the beta in September. However, the beta came and went and the Grand Prix map never arrived. Then, out of the blue, Activision deleted all images and mentions of the map from its social media accounts. This included tweets, Facebook posts, and the YouTube video that showcased the map initially. Many speculated that Activision was forced to remove the map from MW2 due to legal issues with F1. The map is based on the Marina Bay track in Singapore and had actual F1 vehicles racing around during a match.

Despite speculation that the map would be scrapped for good, Grand Prix appears to be back on track. According to a reliable Call of Duty leaker, Grand Prix will be included in multiplayer at launch on Oct. 28.

Grand Prix is back in Modern Warfare 2

The leak comes from reliable insider @TheGhostOfHope, who has accurately leaked a plethora of early details regarding COD over the past few years. Hope claims that the “issues surrounding the map were resolved.” The leaker didn’t go into what issues specifically forced Activision to remove any mention of it from social media.

Regardless of those issues, Hope claims that Grand Prix will be a playable map at launch. It’s unclear if the map will have a new look or not, though. Some fans suggested that developer Infinity Ward would need to make serious design changes to avoid legal problems with F1, if that was the issue in the first place.

Before the map was originally taken off of social media, many professional players in the CDL claimed the Grand Prix map was one of the best they played during an early access event. Of course, that can’t be verified due to the general population never seeing gameplay on the map. But, if this leak is true, then Activision and Infinity Ward might have kept a great map in the rotation.

As of right now, it appears that players will be able to experience the Grand Prix in MW2 after all; whether or not it will be the same map Activision showcased earlier this year remains to be seen.
