GarrettG after NRG win first RLCS World Championship title: ‘I’m gonna chase this feeling forever’

After eight seasons, Garrett “GarrettG” Gordon and his NRG Esports squad have won the RLCS World Championship. Having attended every single season, Garrett lost out on the title by a single goal in Season 5. This time, alongside Justin “Jstn” Morales and four-time winner and LAN MVP, Pierre “Turbopolsa” Silfver, he took the title in an exhilarating Game 7 overtime against Season 7 title-holders Renault Vitality.

The grand final could not have been more perfect for NRG Esports. Going all the way to overtime in Game 7, NRG remained composed. And where Jstn managed to score the equalizer in Season 5, he was now the one to score the world championship-winning goal. Jstn, however, doesn’t agree he was all that composed: “I’m the most nervous on the team,” he laughs. “I was screaming. But yeah, just chilling with the boys, you know.”

Turbopolsa, on the other hand, seemed calm and collected. “It feels pretty decent,” he smiled. “Winning with a new squad feels great. Proving myself and others that I’m still one of the best. Winning when these guys have tried for so long feel just amazing, I can’t describe it.”

Garrett finally got his title after seven disappointments but refused to give up. “When I said I wouldn’t stop until I get to lift that RLCS trophy,” Garrett said, “I worded it wrong. “I’m not gonna ever retire. I’m gonna be like 40 and still play if I can. I’m gonna be chasing this feeling forever. Seven RLCS’s in a row I’ve gone home sad at the end of the day, so I’ll keep chasing this feeling.”

With Season 8 done and dusted, it’s now time to look ahead at RLCS Season 9. The new season will begin in February with 10 teams for the first time. Of course, for all RLCS coverage, Rocket League news and more, stay tuned to Daily Esports!
