After recently announcing his retirement from casting, Ibai “Ibai” Llanos is apparently ready to turn over a new leaf. As teased by both him and the organization, the former League of Legends caster just signed with European organization G2 Esports. The news was announced in a short comedy skit, published by Ibai on his personal Twitter. It is unknown what his role will be, as we are still waiting for G2’s official announcement.
Going back to the 2019 World Championship
For those of us who watched the 2019 World Championship closely, Ibai’s signing might not come as a huge surprise. After all, it was just a matter of time before Ibai and the organization officially tied the knot. If you still don’t know what I’m talking about, I suggest you take a look at the video below.
A legend in the Spanish League of Legends scene
Ibai first appeared in the Spanish League of Legends scene as a caster back in 2014. Spanish fans quickly grew fond of him and his entertaining casting style as he became a staple of the broadcast. He even cast the EU LCS in Spanish, amassing a great following of loyal Spanish fans. However, at the time, he was still fairly unknown outside of Spain.
This changed with the 2016 League of Legends All-Star event held in Barcelona. As one of the event’s hosts, Ibai proved to others why he was so beloved by Spanish fans. From his player introductions before 1v1 matches to his “feud” with Trevor “Quickshot” Henry, Ibai was certainly one of the reasons why it was such a great All-Star event.
The latter even resulted in a 1v1 match between the casters, in which the Spanish matador took down his challenger. However he decides to continue his career, Ibai will surely be missed in the Spanish broadcast.
What do you think Ibai’s role with G2 Esports will be? Let us know in the comments below!
