The Fortnite Fall Skirmish, Epic’s next wave of competition for the popular battle royale title, begins next weekend. A new competitive mode, Showdown Royale, is also on the way. This six-week tournament features a total of $10,000,000 USD in available prize money. This follows a teaser announcement from last week. Today, in a post on their blog, Epic Games describes their next steps:

The new approach for Fall Skirmish will include both Competitive and Entertainment play formats. We’re looking to incorporate some of these new formats into our large-scale events in 2019. During Fall Skirmish, players will proudly represent themed teams and earn points based on their performances in both play formats. Each week will pose new challenges like white-knuckle ATK races, masterful golf outings, mini-games, and of course high skill competition every weekend.

Similar to how the Summer Skirmish finished at PAX West, the Fall Skirmish will also host its finale at a convention. In this case, the tournament ends at Twitchcon, which takes place between October 26 – 28. Further details will release as TwitchCon nears. For now, we know that players will be able to pre-register on a first-come first-served basis. This is also similar to the final week of the Summer Skirmish, which was the first and only week open to the public.

Fortnite Fall Skirmish and the Showdown Royale

However, there will be additional competitive opportunities aside from the Fall Skirmish. Epic teases a new Showdown Royale mode, slated to launch at the beginning of October. This is the first iteration of the long-requested in-game competitive mode. Though details are scarce, supposedly the “entire community will have an opportunity to compete and earn prizes in future competitive events.”

Epic teases that the first week’s format for Fall Skirmish will be unveiled next week. The fact that they reference the “first week’s format” likely means that the Fall Skirmish’s contestants and game modes will rotate, just like with the Summer Skirmish.

What tournament formats are you hoping to see return? Do you have any preliminary expectations for star players? Which teams will rise to the top? We look forward to hearing from you in the comments below.
