FatGoku wins Smash Melee Singles at Rollback Rumble: SCL Q1

Steven “FatGoku” Callopy won Super Smash Bros. Melee Singles at Rollback Rumble: SCL Q1 on October 3. In doing so, he qualified for Division 2 Relegation of the Slippi Champions League. Dawud “Aklo” Rahman, Sufyan “Android 0” Hassan, and Joseph “Azel” Resplandor also earned qualifier spots.

FatGoku swept through the West Coast portion of the bracket without dropping a single game. In the process, he beat players like Preston “Tuesday” Smith, Noah “MegaXmas” Mendelsohn, and Android 0. Then in Winners Quarters, FatGoku narrowly defeated Christian “Amida” Durham in a five-game set.

Despite his close set in top 16, FatGoku played dominantly in top 8. He beat Isaac “bobby big ballz” P. 3-0 in Winners Semis, and Aklo 3-1 in Winners Finals. FatGoku concluded his Rollback: Rumble SCL Q1 run by facing Aklo once again in Grand Finals, this time winning 3-0.

Runner-up Aklo was the sole East Coast representative to reach top 4 at Rollback Rumble: SCL Q1. En route to top 8, he defeated David “Kalvar” Coyne 3-0, “Zuppy” 3-1, and Aaron “ALP” Espinoza 3-2. Then, Aklo beat Colin “Colbol” Green 3-1 in Winners Semis, and Android 0 3-1 in Losers Finals.

Android 0 managed to defeat Leon “ycz6” Zhou and Fernando “Far!” Dorame before FatGoku sent him to the losers bracket. Afterward, Android 0 went on a deep losers run, eliminating Noah “Dova” Pathammavong, Kevin “Bones” Emm, and ALP. In addition, he overcame Kyle “Kalamazhu” Zhu and bobby big ballz in top 8.

Azel placed 4th at Rollback Rumble: SCL Q1, narrowly earning him the coveted Slippi Champions League spot. His winners run included wins over Vincent “Vincessant” Mak and John “KoDoRiN” Ko before he lost to bobby big ballz. From there, Azel eliminated Eduardo “Eddy Mexico” Lucatero Rincón, Amida, and Colbol.

All four of the aforementioned players will compete in Division 2 Relegation of the Slippi Champions League on October 11. This will give them the chance to earn a spot in Division 2 of the League.
