Ever wanted to build your own theme park on Mars?

It’s an interesting concept, but one that could scratch the itch for a decent theme park management game — something we haven’t seen in a while. Mars Attracts, an upcoming title by UK-based indie developers Outlier, aims to provide fans of the genre with an innovative new title.

The official announcement trailer was first seen at Gamescom yesterday, 21 August, but is yet to take off in any significant way. Let’s take a look, shall we?

There’s not a whole lot of gameplay on offer in the trailer, but there are screenshots on the game’s Steam page, and just looking at them will give most players a distinct sense of nostalgia. Anyone who remembers the old movie Mars Attacks (and the wide range of spin offs in all forms of media) will get that cherished double-hit of nostalgia.

The humor on offer in the trailer hints towards a light-hearted, casual game that doesn’t take itself too seriously. This is something theme park management fans will welcome, since games of this type commonly fit this mold.

This is only the second game from the UK-based developer — the first being a space-based co-op survival game that sees up to four players working together in a bid to survive the dangers of the cosmos.

Charming as this game — dubbed “This Means Warp” — may seem, it flew largely under the radar despite garnering mostly positive reviews on Steam since it’s launch in May of 2023.

Mars Attracts will be released in Early Access in 2025, and I’m sure many gamers who remember the old Theme Park Tycoon fondly will be excited to give it a go.
