ESPN Esports Valorant Invitational to feature teams from 7 esport titles

ESPN Esports has announced that it is hosting a 3-day Valorant Invitational tournament that will be aired on Twitch. The tournament follows up on the previous unofficial contest held by 100 Thieves. Interestingly enough, the tournament features eight teams from seven different esport titles. The tournament kicks off on April 20 and runs through to April 23.

Seven different esports meet at Valorant

Dubbed by ESPN Esports as “the most ambitious crossover in esports history,” the tournament pits seven teams from different esports against each other. The eighth team is the Valorant developers that have played against Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek and co. on two occasions already in special show matches. The developers have shown extreme skill and teamwork across the board.

Here is the list of different esports that have teams participating in the invitational:

  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO)
  • Fortnite
  • League of Legends
  • PUBG
  • Rainbow Six Siege
  • Apex Legends
  • Overwatch

Given the list of the competitors, it will be interesting to see teams in League of Legends and Fortnite compete in the ESPN Esports Valorant Invitational. Neither of those titles is a first-person shooter (FPS), and Valorant is a slow tactical title similar to CSGO in mechanics. League of Legends is not even a shooter. The obvious winners should be the Valorant developers or CSGO players. Rainbow Six Siege, Apex Legends, and Overwatch teams should fare well though. Maybe we will witness an unexpected upset?

You can tune in to Twitch starting April 20 at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT to see how the teams fare against each other for three days of Valorant action.
