ESL finds new American home in Chicago

ESL and Intel have partnered with Wintrust Arena and United Center to bring Intel Extreme Masters to Chicago. The previous IEM in the United States has taken place in Oakland. Consequently, ESL has announced that 2018, 2019, and 2020 IEMs in the States will take place in The Windy City of Chicago. This year’s IEM will be held at the Wintrust Arena, while the consequent events will be brought to the United Center, home of the NBA team the Chicago Bulls.

Chicago, one of America’s biggest cities, will be an excellent place to host one of the biggest tournaments in CS:GO. Alongside Katowice, Sydney, and Shanghai, Chicago will be yet another stop at the global tour of Intel Extreme Masters.

As usual, the prize pool will be a hefty $250,000. With 16 teams, out of which 6 are qualifiers, the event will definitely be a pleasure to watch for Counter-Strike fans worldwide. For now, 8 out of 10 teams have been invited:

  • FaZe
  • Astralis
  • BIG
  • mousesports
  • Team Liquid
  • Renegades
  • MIBR
  • NRG

With Ninjas in Pyjamas winning IEM Oakland 2017 and FaZe being the runners-up, the American super team will be out for revenge this year round for sure.

News on the exact dates of this year’s IEM Chicago have been revealed. The group stage will run from November 6-9, with the playoffs spanning for a total of two days, November 10-11.

Counter-Strike fans definitely have an event to look forward to. With top-tier teams being invited to the tournament, the event will surely showcase top-grade Counter-Strike action.
