Dignitas announces Invert as their new assistant coach

North American esports organization Dignitas has recruited former FlyQuest Head Coach Gabriel “Invert” Zoltan-Johan as an assistant coach for the 2020 League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) season. With this news, the organization has completed its 2020 roster for both the main lineup and academy squad.

“The first LCS team I was ever a fan of was the OG Rock Solid and Dignitas squad,” Invert wrote in a Twitter post. “Super excited to be a part of Dignitas in 2020 and even more excited to bring this team to the top!”

Invert started his career with a coaching role at the University of Toronto’s collegiate esports program in October of 2015. He later transitioned to FlyQuest’s Academy team in December of 2017, where Invert led the team to a 1st place finish in 2018’s North American Academy Spring Split Playoffs. The team did not perform as well during the next iteration, with FlyQuest placing 5th in the Summer Split and 3 – 4th in the Summer Playoffs.

However, the end of December saw the departure of Strategic Coach Brandon “Saintvicious” DiMarco. This was after he had made comments that dismissed mental health conditions like depression as just an excuse. Invert took over in the Head Coach role, with David “Cop” Roberson helping as an assistant coach.

During the next season, FlyQuest seemed to find initial success in the 2019 LCS Spring Split with a 4th place finish. The team was ultimately defeated by North American powerhouse Team Liquid in their Playoffs run and also placed 4th. FlyQuest then decided to recruit former Rogue Esports support Kim “Wadid” Bae-in for the Summer Split.

However, this didn’t lead to the positive growth that was expected, with the team finishing second to last in the Summer Split instead. FlyQuest then lost to Clutch Gaming in the Regional Finals, which ended their 2019 season on a bad note.

Invert now joins Thomas “Thinkcard” Slotkin on the Dignitas coaching staff, who has years of experience on teams like Counter Logic Gaming, Enemy, Cloud9, and Clutch Gaming.
