Defuse Team upset Alliance at EU Masters

Recommended Videos

Defuse Team continues its upset streak, knocking Alliance into the lower bracket at the European Masters tournament. The French squad had just came off wins against G2 and Giants Gaming to qualify for the event.

The team held the much-hyped Alliance squad to only two maps and 15 round wins. The entire Defuse squad put up impressive numbers, each player had positive or even Kill to Death ratio. Alex “AKUMAAAAA” Lo Bello was the top performer on the team with 37 kills across both maps on Breach.

Should Defuse Team be a tournament favorite?

The team broke into the Masters tournament off of a surprise upset against G2 in the final qualifier. Before this run of form, Defuse were an under-the-radar French squad. The team had made it deep in Masters and First Strike qualification before, but had never secured a main event slot. Its players also recently parted ways with the greater Defuse organization.

But, the squad has caught fire recently. In both the Alliance and G2 matches, Defuse matched the teams blow for blow with impressive individual plays. AKUMAAAAA and the flexible Jonathan “TakaS” Paupard lit up the kill feed against Alliance.

TakaS is normally the teams main star, topping the scoreboard on three different Agents. This match was different, though. Every member of Defuse put on an impressive showcase in the game and on the scoreboard.

FunPlus Phoenix waiting

Now, the team will go up against one of the top squads in the region: FunPlus Phoenix. The Kyrylo “ANGE1” Karasov led squad is coming off a dominant 2-1 win against Guild Esports.

Both squads have overlapping map picks which could result in a competitive series. The teams will match up Thursday, March 18.
