Gunfight was one of the most popular game modes in Call of Duty from 2019-2021, but it has yet to make an appearance in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This has been a strange turn of events for fans, as Modern Warfare 2019, the sequel to MW2, was the game that introduced Gunfight. While the mode has yet to be added to the sequel, there are currently leaks that indicate when it could arrive.
Although it has yet to be added in MW2, Activision has previously confirmed that Gunfight will be arriving sometime during the game’s life cycle. The developers said this before MW2 was released, but did not offer any kind of expected release date. Leakers guessed that Season 1 or 2 would be the time when fans could expect Gunfight, and as Season 1 is all but past, Season 2 seems the likeliest launch window.
Recent data-mined leaks have backed that theory up, as images of Gunfight’s game mode icon have appeared in the in-game files.
Gunfight could come to Modern Warfare 2 soon
At the time of writing, the images posted by data minor @BKTOOR have been taken down by Activision. This usually means the images were real and Activision doesn’t want fans to see them yet.

Since the image of Gunfight’s icon was found in the game files, this likely means its release date is soon. Season 2 is set to arrive on Feb. 1, although it could be delayed based on recent leaks. The most likely entry point for Gunfight in MW2 is either at the start of Season 2 or sometime during the season, like with the Season 2 Reloaded update.
Whenever Gunfight does come to MW2, fans can expect it to work very similarly to how it did in Modern Warfare 2019. The mode will have its own maps and ruleset, giving fans another mode to play alongside the core modes currently available in MW2.
