DAMWON Gaming is crowned the 2020 League of Legends World Champions, eliminating Suning Gaming and bringing the Summoner’s Cup back home to South Korea. The intense match up showcased DAMWON’s determination and talent through some surprising performances, leading to the region’s 6th win. Although the finals took place in Suning’s home country of China, the team failed to continue their win streak from the past two years.

A win for DAMWON Gaming
Twenty-two international teams qualified to participate in this year’s World Championship. On Saturday morning, the series finally ended 3-1 as DAMWON accepted the title of the 2020 World Champions in front of 6,000 fans at the Pudong Stadium in Shanghai, China.
The South Korean top seed began today’s tournament with a leg up, winning the first match in 35 minutes. They earned 4 Drakes, 2 Barons, and 1 Elder, giving them a major advantage to Suning. Unfortunately, the LPL team couldn’t keep up with the gold difference. Moving on to the next game, Suning pushed forward and followed in DAMWON’s footsteps, reaching almost every objective as Suning’s top-laner Chen “Bin” Ze-Bin as Fiora dealing over 27 thousand points in damage. Overall, the final two games proved that DAMWON wouldn’t give up easily, with the last match ending quickly in 27 minutes.

Making the LCK proud
After the win, LCK teams congratulated DAMWON over the victory. The team recognized how important this milestone is, especially since the team started playing in Challengers Korea just 2 years ago. On the opposite end, Suning’s only tweet shared that they won’t be active on social media until next October.
Hi,sorry to tell that this account may be suspended until October next year😕

DAMWON’s Worlds victory marks the first win in 3 years for the LCK. The last South Korean team to win the World Championship was Samsung Galaxy in 2017. SKT 1 followed right behind them, winning the Worlds Champions title from 2015 to 2016.
Thx!! We all made it together. #LCKWIN

Unfortunately, Suning’s loss breaks the LPL’s win streak from 2018 to 2019. Regardless, their entire run from the start of Worlds to the end is a huge accomplishment for their region.
