Cloud9 have overcome MiBR in the grand finale to qualify for the main IEM Katowice CSGO event in 2020. IEM Katowice 2020 North America Closed Qualifier has concluded after only one spot was available for an NA team in the main event from the qualifier.
Cloud9 brush off MiBR in the final
The new Cloud9 roster impressed in the qualifier. Coming into their first event of 2020, C9 went on to defeat all teams in their path to qualify for the upcoming event in Poland. The team faced Riot Squad, INTZ, and Complexity before qualifying for the final from the upper bracket. This led to the American side attaining a 1-map advantage in the best-of-five series in the final against MiBR.
The final against the Brazilian side was a pretty one-sided show. MiBR did kick things off on Train, their own map pick, with a tight win to make things square at 1-1 in maps. That was, however, not enough to make things close down the line. Overpass, map pick of C9, was a disaster for the Brazilians as the duo of Ian “motm” Hardy and Ricky “floppy” Kemery went into sixth gear to shut down Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo’s squad at 16-4.
The do-or-die map for MiBR was up next. Their map choice, Inferno, turned out to be their bane. With floppy at the forefront of the charge, Cloud9 propelled ahead on their terrorist side to a 16-12 victory, despite a close half at 8-7.
Cloud9 defeated MiBR with a 3-1 scoreline in the best-of-five matchup. The ex-ATK roster has impressed on their very first showing, and we will see them at IEM Katowice in Poland at the end of February.
