Griffin “Captain Faceroll” Williams won Super Smash Bros. Melee Singles at DreamHack Atlanta 2019 on November 17. It was one of many tournaments that Captain Faceroll has won this year, including Ultimate Nimbus and Fête. However, this was by far his biggest tournament win to date.
Captain Faceroll advanced out of pools unscathed, as expected. Along the way, he earned victories over Logan “LSD” Dunn and Harrison “HTwa” Turner. He then advanced into Melee top 8 with a 3-1 win over Zaid “Spark” Ali.
Captain Faceroll lost to Jason “Mew2King” Zimmerman 3-1 in Losers Semis. In addition, he initially looked shaky in the losers bracket. Captain Faceroll barely eked out a game five victory over David “Kalvar” Coyne in Losers Quarters. He even went down 0-2 against Spark in their Losers Semis set. However, something must have clicked for Captain Faceroll after game two of Losers Semis; he did not drop another game for the rest of the tournament.
After a reverse 3-0 over Spark, Captain Faceroll proceeded to face off against Edgard “n0ne” Sheleby. Captain Faceroll won that set 3-0, dropping only two stocks throughout the entire set. He then defeated Mew2King 6-0 between both sets of Grand Finals, winning DreamHack Atlanta 2019 Melee Singles. This dominant victory also marked Captain Faceroll’s first win over any of the five gods of Melee.
