The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare roadmap has finally been completed as we got our first look at Spec Ops. An official trailer released earlier today showing off the characters and various locations used during Spec Ops. This is likely the final piece of official information we will receive until Modern Warfare releases on Oct. 25.
Modern Warfare Spec Ops trailer revealed
If you’re unaware of what Spec Ops is, it’s essentially Infinity Ward’s replacement for zombies. While their last title, Infinite Warfare, did feature zombies, there’s simply no place for them in Modern Warfare’s realistic setting.
Spec Ops takes the co-op experience but instead of fighting the undead, you battle with enemy soldiers. There are two layers to Spec Ops this year, Operations and Survival. Operations are played in a semi-open world and can be tackled in a variety of ways, similar to in a Tom Clancy title. Vehicles, stealth mode, and more allow you and your team to tackle the different scenarios in your own way.
Missions will also be a part of Operations, which feature both solo and group play. Unlike Operations, the Missions will test your abilities with the varying weapons at your disposal. Like the classic Modern Warfare 2 days, Missions will reward you with a 1-, 2-, or 3-star rating based on your performance.
The other mode is Survival, which is only available on PS4 for the first year. Survival takes the zombie experience and alters a few aspects. You are still fighting waves of enemies and can purchase different weapons and equipment. However, killstreaks and more are available to help you fight for longer. Survival will launch with three multiplayer maps to choose from. We last saw this mode in Modern Warfare 3.
Spec Ops is certainly a good change of pace from both multiplayer and the campaign. However, it will always have the PlayStation exclusivity deal hanging over its head.
