All of the leaks concerning a Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer Alpha ended up being correct. We reported on the possibility a couple of weeks ago but it was looking like the leak was a dead-end. However, at the PlayStation 5 reveal event, Treyarch revealed that an Alpha is coming and coming soon. Starting this weekend, from September 18 to September 20, PlayStation 4 players only can hop into the BOCW multiplayer Alpha. This is a free and completely open Alpha and only requires a download, which can start taking place tomorrow, September 17.

Black Ops Cold War multiplayer Alpha announced

This was completely unexpected within the community. While there were leaks out there about a possible early-access look before the beta, the possibility looked grim. After all, the multiplayer reveal event came and went, and still, nothing on an Alpha was announced.

However, Treyarch dropped a bomb on the community today at the PS5 reveal event. After showing a riveting campaign mission from Black Ops Cold War, a producer at Treyarch made the announcement that an Alpha is arriving on PS4 this weekend, starting on September 18 and ending on September 20. Both days will feature a 1 pm ET timeframe; on September 18 the Alpha will begin at 1:00 pm, and on September 20 the Alpha will end at the same time.

As the graphic states, this is only available to PlayStation 4 users. While devastating to Xbox fans, this further solidifies the deal between Sony and Activision. If you are a PS4 user, PlayStation Plus is not required to play the Alpha. However, you will need to download the Alpha version of Black Ops Cold War. That can start tomorrow September 17 at 11 am ET. You can find the game on the PS Store.

If you had any weekend plans, it might be a good idea to go ahead and cancel them. Make sure to stay tuned to Daily Esports for all Call of Duty news.
