Call of Duty: Warzone has given players the chance to run Overkill automatically on all of their loadouts, making secondary weapons much more viable in Season 1. In most cases, you want your secondary weapon to be a submachine gun, which is why the Rival-9 and its loadout have garnered so much interest early on in Warzone.
The Rival-9 is currently the best submachine gun in MW3 multiplayer, and many players assumed that would carry over into Warzone. So far, it’s unclear what the best SMG is, as there are a few contenders, with the Rival-9 included in that mix. If you want to test out the Rival-9’s viability for yourself, I recommend equipping a slightly different loadout than the one you might be used to in multiplayer.

Best Rival-9 loadout in Warzone
- Muzzle: Purifier Muzzle Brake
- Barrel: Rival-C Clearshot Barrel
- Stock: EXF Close Quarters Stock
- Magazine: 40 Round Mag
- Rear Grip: Rival Vice Assault Grip
As the Rival-9 features some pretty hefty recoil by default, my loadout for the SMG is mostly focused on bringing that down so you can laser enemies at mid-range. This starts with the Purifier Muzzle Brake and the Rival Vice Assault Grip, both of which are solely designed to increase recoil control across the board. Then, I have the EXF Close Quarters Stock equipped to further improve accuracy while also giving a slight bump to mobility.

Rounding things out, the Rival-C Clearshot Barrel boosts damage range and bullet velocity so you can have more success at longer ranges. Finally, the 40 Round Mag is much-needed if you’re planning on taking on more than one enemy at a time in Warzone.
