One of the first live Overwatch League events of the 2022 season, the Battle of Texas, will have live Overwatch 2 games for fans to play. The staple rivalry between the Houston Outlaws and Dallas Fuel will restart on May 6, 2022. The league is incorporating Overwatch 2 into this live event, with fans able to play the game before and during the match. Along with that, 50 lucky fans will get an Overwatch 2 PvP beta access code. And last but not least, former Overwatch League host Malik Forté will return as the host for this event.

Overwatch 2 beta playable live in Texas

After a mainly online 2021 season, the Overwatch League is planning to reincorporate live events in the 2022 season. The first official live event of the upcoming season is the Battle of Texas, a longtime rivalry in the league. The event itself is at the Tech Port Center in San Antonio, Texas. The Houston Outlaws and their ownership group in Beasley Esports are helping make Overwatch 2 one of the highlights of the live experience.

At the event, custom-built high-end PCs will be available for fans to hop on and try Overwatch 2’s PvP beta. According to the press release, these PCs will be available to play “before and after the opening ceremony, and fans will have an opportunity to play throughout the event.”

Lori Burgess, COO of Beasley Esports, talked more about this reintroduction to live events.

“With something as momentous as the start of this year’s Overwatch League, we wanted to match that and give back to our fans who’ve supported us right from the very start,” said Lori Burgess. “We know fans have been eager to get their hands on Overwatch 2 PvP, and partnering with Belong will help us do just that. The Battle for Texas won’t be just a kick off to a new Overwatch League season, but a true debut of what fans can expect from this game, our team and the community as a whole.”

Live fans will also get put into a giveaway for one of fifty available Overwatch 2 PvP beta codes. As long as you are a ticket holder, you will be put in a draw to win. The beta will be available starting on April 26, 2022.

The return of a beloved host

As the cherry on top of the event, Beasley Esports confirmed that an old Overwatch League host, Malik Forté, will host the 2022’s first Battle of Texas. He was last officially part of the Overwatch League back in 2019, as a host for the playoffs that season.

“Since the dawn of the Overwatch League, the rivalry between the Houston Outlaws and Dallas Fuel has created key memorable moments that practically define the excitement and tension within each game played throughout the season,” said Forté. “Both teams definitely don’t disappoint and have proven to be a premiere match-up every year within the league. We hope you’ll join us in San Antonio to witness Overwatch 2 PvP for the first time in person since 2019.”
