Armor Beginnings rules

In Armor Beginnings, you will only be able to use Pokémon from The Isle of Armor Pokédex. This includes many Pokémon from the Galar Regional Pokédex as well, so be sure you research which ones are legal. All Gigantamax forms will be eligible as well. You must catch Pokémon you wish to use in Pokémon Sword or Shield or get them the battle-ready symbol from the NPC at the back of the Battle Tower in Wyndon.

Armor Beginnings will be a singles competition (each trainer sends out one Pokémon at a time). You will be able to have six in your party and choose three to battle. Each Pokémon will be set to level 50 while battling.

Signup and rewards

If you want to compete, you can sign up in-game from now until Thursday, July 23 at 4:59 p.m. PDT. To sign up, go to the VS menu, select Battle Stadium, choose Online Competitions, and then Search Official Competitions. From there, you will see the Armor Beginnings tournament that you can sign up for. Be sure to sign up on time or you won’t be able to compete. You don’t need the expansion to compete in the tournament either, so if you don’t have it, you can still sign up!

Everyone who competes in at least one battle will earn 50 Battle Points, which you can use to buy certain items. Players will also be able to see their spot on the leaderboard in August once the competition concludes and results are tallied.

Be sure to prepare a singles-battle team and sign up while you can. It should be a fun way to commemorate the new Expansion.
