Are dedicated servers coming to Palworld on Xbox & Game Pass? Microsoft reveals promising update

Palworld launched on Xbox consoles and Game Pass without dedicated servers, but a new blog post from Microsoft may bring good news.

The Xbox and Game Pass versions of Palworld dropped with several features missing compared to the Steam release. The biggest absence was dedicated servers, however, a blog post from Microsoft has confirmed they are working on adding them.

Players were surprised to find out that the Steam and Xbox versions of the game were slightly different, as developers Pocketpair hadn’t suggested this would be the case pre-launch. While the Steam edition launched with dedicated server capabilities, this feature was notably absent on Xbox, including the Game Pass version available on PC.

Are dedicated servers coming to Palworld on Xbox & Game Pass?

It appears that yes, dedicated servers are coming to the Xbox version of Palworld, including the Game Pass edition on PC.

In a blog post on January 31, 2024, in which Microsoft celebrated Palworld becoming the biggest third-party launch in Game Pass history, the discussion moved to what Xbox was doing to help support Pocketpair to improve the Xbox versions of the game.

Alongside “offering engineering resources to help with GPU and memory optimization,” and “speed up the process to make Palworld updates available for players,” the most interesting tidbit was that they are “providing support to enable dedicated servers.”

Unfortunately, Microsoft didn’t offer a time frame in regards to when we could expect dedicated servers to go live on Xbox versions, but the fact that they are working on them alongside Pocketpair is a clear indication that it is something they are very keen to implement.

The blog post also mentioned that the developers are very aware of calls for cross-play to be introduced too, and would be ideal for those who want to jump on to dedicated servers with friends on other versions of Palworld in the future.

For now, though, we’ll just have to bide our time and wait for an update from either Xbox or Pocketpair. We’ll be sure to update this article when new information on dedicated servers becomes available.
