Over the past several days, the WallStreetBets subreddit has been in a tense conflict with Melvin Capital. It all started with Redditors investing in GameStop (GME) stock. This led to the price of the stock skyrocketing, which could potentially cause Melvin Capital to lose billions of dollars. Today, the Robinhood investing app blocked users from purchasing GME stock. AOC plans to discuss the situation with her viewers on Twitch tonight.

AOC has streamed on Twitch in the past. She has done two separate Among Us streams with popular Twitch personalities like Hasan Piker and Pokimane. During these streams, she talks about politics, gaming, culture and many other things. During this Twitch stream, it seems likely AOC will primarily focus on the current events surrounding the stock market.

Who is AOC?

AOC is a 31-year-0ld politician serving as a representative for New York’s 41st congressional district. New York elected her to the House of Representatives in the 2018 elections. She is widely known for sharing her progressive views on Twitter and other social media platforms.

Her past streams have been successful, breaking records for viewership for an individual streamer. Her initial Among Us stream back in October of 2020 had over 1.4 million views. AOC’s second stream wasn’t quite as popular but still had over 200k concurrent viewers. This also doesn’t account for viewers watching the streamers she was playing with.

Given how hectic the situation with Robinhood and the stock market is, plenty of people don’t understand the situation. As a congresswoman, AOC should be able to help shine some light on what is going on for the average Twitch viewer who hasn’t kept up with the situation. She claims she might have “a guest or two join,” so it should be interesting to see what she has to say and who she has on.
