ANTi wins Super Smash Bros. Brawl Singles at Super Smash Con 2019

Jason “ANTi” Bates won Super Smash Bros. Brawl Singles at Super Smash Con 2019 on Aug. 10. Interestingly, Brawl seems to have a bit more life than Smash 4. This was the third major Brawl tournament of the year. The first two were Return to Subspace 2 in March and Get On My Level 2019 in May.

ANTi made it to top 8 on winners side, securing wins over Dustin “Denti” Carlson and Kyle “Gunnermaniac” Runnels. Notably, his Winners Quarters victory over Gunnermaniac was a 3-0. However, ANTi naturally faced greater competition in top 8.

“686M” took ANTi to game five in their Winners Semis set, but ANTi came out on top. ANTi then earned a 3-1 victory over Wyatt “ADHD” Beekman. In Smash Con Brawl Grand Finals, he took hold of 1st place with a 3-2 win over Nairoby “Nairo” Quezada.

Though “best Brawl player in the world” is not necessarily a highly coveted title, ANTi may be able to claim it. Super Smash Con 2019 was much larger than all the other Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournaments this year. In fact, with 184 entrants, this was the biggest Brawl tournament since Sumabato X Final in August 2014.

Other Smash Con Brawl results

686M’s run to 4th place was impressive and rather out-of-nowhere. Prior to Super Smash Con’s Brawl tournament, 686M was a relatively unknown player. However, he made waves at this event. 686M earned victories over Jestise “MVD” Negron, Zeyan “cookieslayer” Nizami, Peter “Poyo” M., and Yuki “Etsuji” Kajihara.

Gunnermaniac also had a surprising run to 9th place in Smash Con Brawl Singles. Gunnermaniac is primarily known as a Twitch streamer and Pokémon speedrunner. However, he has proven that he also has what it takes to compete in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He earned victories over Sean “Donkey Inferno” DiCrosta and Joshua “Pelca” Bedoya.

ANTi also won Brawl Doubles at this event, teaming with ADHD. They earned victories over “Azeal” & 686M, Will “JLim” Beckler & Joseph “Seagull Joe” Raucher, and Saleem “Salem” Young & Christi “Chia” Korsak.
