Retail giant Amazon has partnered with Spanish company GGTech Entertainment and UK university esports group The NUEL. As a result of this partnership, over 200 universities across the UK, Italy, and Spain are expected to participate in the launch of Amazon University Esports. The first season of Amazon University Esports will see students compete in three popular titles. These are League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and mobile game Clash Royale.
The winning teams in these titles will qualify for international tournaments, providing unique opportunities for the students involved. Also, Amazon University Esports will sponsor The NUEL’s CSGO and Rainbow Six Siege tournaments as a part of this partnership.
Amazon University Esports’ intentions
This launch will see more students competing and being involved in esports. Moreover, the launch of the program shows that conglomerates such as Amazon are supportive of more young people wanting to pursue careers in gaming. This Amazon partnership will also integrate with Twitch Student Program, which is likewise involved in collegiate esports. This initiative aims to grow the popularity of student streamers, and the Amazon University Esports organization expands that ambition on a global scale.

The founder and Managing Director of The NUEL, Josh Williams, commented on the newly formed partnership. He stated that The NUEL are “incredibly excited about working with GGTech and Amazon to grow the student esports community across Europe. Working together, we will have the scale and resources to provide more pathways for students to get into esports and have great experiences. We’re looking forward to developing this partnership over the coming months and years.”
The newly formed partnership will see Amazon University Esports based in Alicante, Spain at the GGTech Entertainment headquarters, also providing The NUEL access to these facilities to create its own broadcasts.
