Biggest discounts and best games — Steam Summer Sale

These are in order, with the biggest discounts showing up first. I’ve left a lot of games off the list simply because I either haven’t played them or don’t think you’d be interested in them. So here are my top picks from this year’s Steam Summer Sale.

Cid Meier’s Civilization VI — 95% Off

I never liked the older Civilization games, they were too slow and boring to my liking. I much preferred the faster pace of Warcraft and Command and Conquer when it came to strategy games. That changes with Civilization V, which was an absolute gem of a game. The sixth entry into the franchise is also really good, so if you’re into strategy, give it a go.

It takes a little while to get the hang of it, but once you’re there it’s a real fun game with excellent multiplayer capabilities. If you want all the DLC’s too, there’s an anthology a little down this list.

Middle Earth: Shadow of War — 95% Off

I’ve always loved the universe that J.R.R. Tolkien gave us in The Lord of the Rings books. Shadow of War lets you enter the battlefield and fight orcs and champions and all sorts, all from the brilliant mind of the original author.

At 95% off, it’s only a few bucks if you haven’t played it yet.

Tomb Raider Definitive Survivor Trilogy — 94% Off

I was a young lad when the original Tomb Raider came out, and… you know what, I’ll just leave it there.

You can now get three of Lara Croft’s adventures for an astonishing 94% off. This bundle includes Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. There’s also a ton of DLC that’s included, too. Definitely has my approval.

Left 4 Dead Bundle — 93% Off

These games fall in the nostalgia category for most of us these days. This bundle includes Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2, which launched in 2008 and 2009 respectively. Yeah, they’re old games, but you can take your chances in this terrifying zombie apocalypse game for just a few bucks with the 93% sale.

So if you’re into zombies, crafting, and fighting for you life, give it a go.

Battlefield 1 — 93% Off

Ah, the original battlefield. What a classic. What? It’s not the original? It came after Battlefield 4??

Sigh. I’m not even going to try explaining the naming conventions here. Battlefield 1 launched in 2016, that after Battlefield 4, and before Battlefield 5. Anyway, this game is set in the classic World War II era, and can be tons of fun hopping into a multiplayer to fight for territory. And at 93% off, it’s a steal.

Battlefield V – 93% Off

Yes, this is the game that came after Battlefield 1. It features a great campaign, cool multiplayer options (though it’s not as popular as it once was), and better player customization options than 1. It was released in 2018, and is the second-to-newest Battlefield game in the franchise.

The latest entry, Battlefield 2042, is also in this list if you want to take a look at that.

Portal Bundle – 93% Off

More classics, with the good old Portal series by Valve. If you like a good puzzle platform game, here’s your chance to spoil yourself. This bundle features both the first and second games in the series. In the game, you’ve got to make your way around by way of a portal gun, and it can get pretty interesting!

It’s a good play if you’ve never given these games a go. They’re only a few bucks on sale.

Valve Complete Pack — 92% Off

This bundle features 18 discounted games and DLC, plus 4 free games. It’s a massive bundle, and also includes the Portal and Left 4 Dead games from above. You’ll also get to relive the classics that are Half-Life and Half-life 2. When’s the last time you played as doctor Gordon Freeman?

This is your chance to relive the golden age of Valve.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition — 90% Off

This bundled edition of the Mass Effect game series packs all three games and 40 DLC into one affordable purchase. Relive (or experience for the first time) the stunning story as you fight alongside your men as commander Shepard.

Great games at a great price. If you’re looking for a decent Action FPS/RPG to sink your teeth into, this is the one.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — 90% Off

If you haven’t lived through the adventured of Geralt of Rivia, it’s time to crawl out from under your rock and get gaming. Wild Hunt takes you on an epic journey across the Continent and offers over 50 hours of story, plus an epic 170+ hours to get that 100% (not something I’ve managed to do!).

Slay monsters and maidens in this fantastic story-based action RPG.

American Truck Simulator — 90% Off

So, I never did get the fuss about these games. You play a truck driver and, presumably, drive trucks. Compared to The Witcher, it all seems rather dull. However, these games have pulled quite the following, so we must be missing something, right?

If you’ve been wanting to drive across the US in a big rig, now’s your opportunity.

Battlefield 2042 — 90% Off

I know, it’s the third Battlefield game on the list. What can I say, I’m a fan! I never liked the fact that this entry doesn’t have a single-player campaign. That said, the story is told through multiplayer game play and can be pretty fun.

Honestly, I prefer V, but this is the latest entry — launching in 2018 — and I thought I’d include it. The next one in the series is set to launch next year. Rumors are the name will be Battlefield 2025, but for all anyone knows we could get Battlefield Zero. Or Battlefield 2. Or heck, Battlefield: Monkey Paw 77 – who knows at this point!

Civilization VI Anthology – 88% Off

The base game of Civilization V felt incomplete. VI is kind of similar, so I would highly recommend foregoing the base game and just getting the anthology. You get loads of content for a really reasonable price.

You have until July 11 to decide though.

Far Cry Bundle – 86% Off

If you’ve never played a Far Cry game, shooters probably aren’t your thing and you’re all done here. If you’d like to relive the entire series, from the very first game through to Far Cry 6, this is the bundle for you. Though, if you only need six, it’s 80% off here.

This bundle includes 9 standalone games, so it’s definitely worth a buy if you’re feeling any sort of boredom coming on.

That’s it for Now

There are hundreds of games, and hundreds of dollars of savings to be had. I wish I could list all my favorites, but that would take a week and you might miss out on the sale. These are my top picks, but if you have any recommendations, drop them in the comments below so others can see ’em too.
