Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is now Silver III in League of Legends

New York Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has made it to Silver III in League of Legends‘ ranked mode.

The bartender-turned-congressional representative, popularly known as AOC, first posted about her love for League of Legends in 2018. That year she tweeted she was in the lowly rank of Bronze V. Since then, she clearly put in the work to progress up the ranks. She reached Silver IV last year and now is in Silver II.

Climbing in League‘s ranked ladder is widely known as a time consuming and difficult task for many players. So it’s quite a wonder that AOC has managed even a mid-tier rank while balancing a full-time Congressional position—in an election year, no less.

AOC even had time to respond to questions from followers about LoL. She revealed that she’s a fan of Sona, Janna, Lux, and Morgana. She even compared healer-support champion Soraka to the often-discussed Medicare for All program in the United States. “Inting 13-year-olds” also came into her line of fire, whom she compared to her frequent spats with “right-wing Twitter”.

League of Congress: AOC and more

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is not the only congressional League of Legends player. Representative Josh Harder of California’s 10th District claimed to have reached Platinum rank last year. “Congress might work better if more battles were fought on summoner’s rift instead of committee hearings,” the young Congressman tweeted at the time. Funnily enough, this sentiment echoes the old (now retconned) League of Legends lore, in which Summoners controlled the champions on the rift to solve their political and national disputes.

AOC’s Silver III ranking puts her in the solid mid-tier of LoL players. Harder’s Platinum ranking is even more of an accomplishment, putting him in the top 20% or so of the game’s ranked player base.

Current Governor of Colorado Jared Polis is also apparently a big fan of League of Legends. The high-ranking politician, and the first openly homosexual male Governor of any state, talked to fans about his experiences playing Maokai in the jungle back in 2012. However, his current rank is unknown.

Do you think politicians enjoying popular video games is good for their careers? Or is climbing the ranked ladder too much of a distraction? Let us know what you think below.
