Korean esports organization Afreeca Freecs has signed former Team World Elite AD carry Jin “Mystic” Seong-jun to its League of Legends roster. Mystic returns to the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) league after leaving it back in 2014.

Mystic returns to LCK for 2020

Mystic joins Afreeca Freecs after competing under Team WE for nearly five years in the Tencent League of Legends Pro League (LPL). While there, the team went on to take 1st in 2015’s National Electronic Sports Tournament and 2017’s LPL Spring Playoffs. Team WE also finished 3 – 4th at 2017’s Mid-Season Invitational, 1st at 2017’s Rift Rivals, and 1st at that year’s LPL Regional Finals. That last one led to a 3 – 4th place finish at 2017’s World Championships.

However, Team WE could not repeat that same success in the seasons afterward, even if their roster consisted of mostly the same players. Bottom-half bracket placements were common until the 2019 LPL Season. Unfortunately, the loss of Mystic to Afreeca Freecs will be heavy for Team WE, as he was one of the main reasons for the organization’s success.

From Team WE to Afreeca Freecs

While Mystic revealed he had entered free agency on Nov 20, Team WE stated that it was in talks to retain him. Meanwhile, Afreeca Freecs most recently achieved 5th place during the 2019 LCK Summer Split, along with 4th in the LCK Regional Finals. With a full Korean roster, it seems like a better choice for both communication purposes and team synergy.

The addition of Mystic comes shortly after former GenG mid laner Song “Fly” Yong-jun joined them. Mid laner Son “Ucal” Woo-hyeon, bot laner Kim “Aiming” Ha-ram, substitute support player Son “Jelly” Ho-gyeong, and interim head coach Jeong “NoFe” No-chul have also left the team during the offseason. Will Afreeca Freecs make any more roster changes before the LCK starts? Let us know about your opinion, and keep up with Daily Esports for all of your League of Legends coverage.
