Activision remains silent on Call of Duty 2020 developer

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Earlier today, Activision held its fourth-quarter investor’s call. What usually happens on this call is Activision divulges details on both the current Call of Duty and next year’s title. While they discussed the former at length, the latter was essentially glossed over completely. So, we have a ton of information on Modern Warfare, but virtually none on the development for the 2020 title. However, we do know the game is in development, which could be a good or bad thing depending on how you view it.

Call of Duty 2020 in a state of flux?

The details on Call of Duty 2020 are scarce at best. We have leaks, which state that Treyarch is working on the game with the help of Sledgehammer Games. The leaks also suggest that the title is a continuation of the Black Ops series.

Aside from that, we know nothing about the game’s development or content. Activision usually lets loose some details in its fourth-quarter investor call. Today, however, instead of divulging information, they were uncommonly mute on the subject.

Activision’s decision to not say the developer for Call of Duty 2020 is interesting. Still, they also state that there’s reason to be excited about 2020. We will hopefully receive more details on the future of Call of Duty in the near future.

Modern Warfare breaking records financially

In discussing the current title, Activision was much more open. The publisher stated that microtransaction sales are up by a “double-digit percentage” compared to last year. This is in large part thanks to the new system in Modern Warfare, which features no season pass or supply drops.

Also in regards to Modern Warfare, Activision stated that Season 2 will bring even more content and surprises. They didn’t disclose any specific details, unfortunately.

There’s no word on when we’ll receive news on Call of Duty 2020. In the meantime, Season 2 of Modern Warfare releases on Feb. 11. Make sure to keep up with Daily Esports for all Call of Duty news!
