Earlier this week, Activision and Infinity Ward held a call with content creators that confirmed the new entries in the Call of Duty franchise for 2022. While many fans already knew this information, thanks to leaks, the developers officially confirmed that 2022 will release Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.
Modern Warfare II is the main entry in the franchise. It’s a direct sequel to Modern Warfare 2019 and is being developed by Infinity Ward. Activision didn’t explicitly say the title is called Modern Warfare II but leaks have surfaced that all but confirm this name.
Warzone 2, on the other hand, was also confirmed. This and Modern Warfare II were “built together from the ground up,” signifying that a lot of work has gone into developing both titles. Below, fans can read the information Activision released about the 2022 titles.
Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2 are confirmed
The official Call of Duty Twitter account tweeted out a rundown of what fans can expect with the 2022 games. In short, though, both titles are being developed on a new engine, which likely carries some remnants from the Modern Warfare 2019 engine. The games are rumored to be revolutionary in their graphics, animations and other visuals.
Let’s start with a look ahead:
✅ COD 2022 is a sequel to MW 2019, and being designed with a new #Warzone experience (both led by @InfinityWard)
✅ A massive evolution of BR, with an all-new playspace and new sandbox mode
✅ A new engine powering both the new game and #Warzone— Call of Duty (@CallofDuty) February 11, 2022
The account went into more detail about Warzone 2 than anything else. They call the game “a massive evolution of BR,” with a new sandbox mode coming with it. This mode is rumored to be called “DMZ” and features Escape From Tarkov-like elements. However, Activision didn’t confirm anything else about the mode.
There are also some quality of life changes coming to Warzone 2. A FOV Slider for consoles is apparently on the way, but it won’t reach consoles during Warzone’s current life cycle due to technical limitations. There was no word on when this FOV Slider would arrive with Warzone 2, though.
Infinity Ward is leading the way in 2022, developing both Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare II. More details about the games, and a timeframe for their releases, should be coming soon, as Activision is teasing both titles this early.
