The Call of Duty World League Twitter has announced the new location for this year’s Championships: Los Angeles. The event will take place between August 16 and 18 at the Pauley Pavilion. In 2018, CWL Championships was instead held in Columbus, Ohio with a $1,500,000 USD prize pool.

The last time the CWL Pro League esports tournament took place in Los Angeles occurred around three years ago. Back then, it was held in Inglewood at The Forum in September of 2016.

A short video was attached to the announcement tweet, and while most specifics were not given, we did get a few important details. The tournament will take place in the indoor arena of Edwin W. Pauley Pavilion. This arena lies in the Westwood Village of Los Angeles and belongs to the UCLA basketball team. Volleyball and gymnastics teams also compete at the location.

Call of Duty franchising will most likely be happening next year. This would make the 2019 Call of Duty World League Championships the last of the current setting where any team can potentially qualify. As for the 2019 rendition, the CWL Championships will consist of 32 teams. 16 teams will come from the CWL Pro League, with another 16 from Open Bracket Finals. They will play in a group and knockout stage, in best of 5 matches. The total prize pool this year is USD $2,000,000.

2018 CWL Pro League

The 2018 event was held at the MLG Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The prize pool was $500,000 less than this year. It also included 4 teams from relegation of the CWL Pro League. Evil Geniuses ended up winning first place, with Team Kaliber in second, FaZe Clan in third, and eUnited finishing in fourth. Team Envy tied with Luminosity Gaming for 5-6 place. Elevate Gaming then tied with Red Reserve for the 7-8 placing.

The new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game arrives October 25. This will, of course, set the stage for the 2020 Call of Duty competitive scene. Will you be following the 2019 Call of Duty World Championships event? Keep up with all of the latest Call of Duty news and content here at Daily Esports.
