100 Thieves unveiled their rebuilt VALORANT roster in an announcement video on Thursday. The team will retain Peter “Asuna” Mazuryk and continue to play with Sean “bang” Bezerra, as first reported by Dot Esports. The team is rounded out with new additions William “Will” Cheng, Derrek “Derrek” Ha and Brenden “stellar” McGrath.
Asuna will continue to fulfill a flex role on the team, handling Kay/O, Breach and Skye where necessary. Bang is pivoting towards Controller agents. Coming from Rise, Derrek will continue to play Sova. From SoaR Gaming, stellar will continue to play Sentinel agents. Finally, Will, who comes from Built By Gamers, will play Duelist on Jett and Raze.
“Philosophically speaking, we had a lot to think about while we were trying to rebuild this roster,” Daniel “ddk” Kapadia, the newly appointed general manager, said in the announcement video. “We had a vision for the team.”
Head coach Sean “sgares” Gares and ddk said they sought out players who were hungry to win, whose roles fit and who were strong culture fits.
“What we’re trying to achieve here is having five players that truly enjoy playing with each other on a high level, every single day,” Gares said. “I truly think we ended up with five players that create a special environment.”
Both Gares and ddk emphasized the team’s focus on growth. Starting from scratch, their plan is to roll with the punches until they hit their stride. Of course, the end goal is to return the team to their winning ways and net the organization more trophies.
“Teams are going to play us and, unlike other teams in our region, there’s not going to be a weak spot on this map,” Gares said.
One player notably left off the new 100 Thieves active roster is Ethan “Ethan” Arnold, who will be benched while he figures out his future in competitive VALORANT.
