100 Thieves benches Meteos and Stunt for LCS Week 3

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

League of Legends Championship Series team 100 Thieves have benched their jungle player William “Meteos” Hartman for Week Three of the 2020 Summer Split. He will be replaced by former Cloud9 jungler Juan “Contractz” Arturo Garcia. Support player William “Stunt” Chen will also see the axe. His place will be taken by Philippe “Poome” Lavoie-Giguere. Both replacement players were previously on the 100 Thieves Academy roster.

100 Thieves’ main squad currently sits in joint 8th place in the LCS. They are tied with Immortals on a 1-5 Win-Loss record. Only Dignitas, who have failed to pick up a single win so far, have a worse record.

Despite being a veteran League of Legends player, Meteos may have made it worse for himself by tweeting out his frustrations at the news – hours before the official announcement from his team.

In a series of now-deleted tweets, he first told his followers that he will be dropped from the roster for Week Three. Meteos then sarcastically praised the 100 Thieves staff, including former LCS caster and 100T general manager Papa Smithy. He also suggested that his teammates had not been informed of the decision.

Meteos benched again: Past and present

The situation may be made more volatile for the LCS legend Meteos, as he has history with the 100 Thieves organization. He first joined them back in 2017, helping them reach first place in the 2018 Spring Split.

However, he was unceremoniously traded to FlyQuest during the next split. Rumors circulated at the time that the champion jungler had had a falling out with 100T’s then-coach Neil “Pr0lly” Hammond.

FlyQuest promptly placed Meteos into their Academy team, where he remained for a while before leaving for Optic Gaming. After four months, their LCS spot was bought out by the returning Immortals. IMT quickly made it clear they had no need for Meteos on their new roster.

This paved the way for his return to 100 Thieves, now under new head coach Tony “Zikz” Gray. That transfer happened in November last year. However, it hasn’t worked out for the team so far. Results have not gone their way in the first three weeks of the Summer Split.
