“We’re excited to share that @Ryulol will be returning to the rift this Summer Split as the starting mid-laner for our LoL Academy team,” said 100 Thieves in a tweet. “He was a rock for our team in 2018 and we’re thrilled to see him play again!”

Ryu’s League of Legends history

Ryu “Ryu” Sang-wook began his professional career playing mid laner and jungler for StarTale. He did the same while competing under KT Rolster Bullets, winning against Fnatic for the IEM Season 8 World Championships. He later played under Phoenix1, H2k Gaming, Millenium, and Team ROCCAT. Of those teams, he went to the 2015 and 2016 World Championships with H2k. Finally, after Phoenix1 sold their spot in the LCS as part of the franchising process, he joined 100 Thieves.

After the 2018 NA LCS Summer Split, Ryu transitioned to an assistant coach position. This was because 100 Thieves had signed a new mid laner in 2019, with Choi “huhi” Jae-hyun. The North American esports organization also had to use his import slot for 2019 new joiner AD carry Bang.

New 100 Thieves Academy roster

With former 100 Thieves Academy mid laner Max “Soligo” Soong moving up to the main roster, there was a mid laner slot that needed filling. Andy “AnDa” Hoang has also been moved to the 100 Thieves Academy roster as the starting jungler. This is so Maurice “Amazing” Stückenschneider can join the main roster. Kristopher “Fragas” Myhal will be the Academy team’s substitute jungler for the time being.

The LCS Summer Split starts back up on June 1. How do you think 100 Thieves will perform in the 2019 Summer Split when compared to the Spring? Want to keep up with all of the latest League of Legends news and content? Keep track on our League of Legends page!
