How to execute a Finisher in Modern Warfare 3

The ultimate form of humiliation

The Finisher mechanic is one of the most popular features Call of Duty has added over the past few years, and it’s no surprise to see it return in Modern Warfare 3. If you’re unfamiliar with Finishers, they are unique animations that play when you kill an enemy in a specific way.

There is only one way to execute a Finisher, and it’s by walking up behind an enemy and pressing a specific button. If done correctly, your Operator will go into the Finisher animation, which ends with you killing your enemy in a unique and humiliating fashion. You can unlock different Finishers by purchasing various Operators, unlocking them through the Battle Pass, or completing in-game challenges.

However, unlocking a Finisher is worthless if you don’t know how to properly execute one. In this guide, I’ll walk you through all of the steps to do a Finisher in Modern Warfare 3.

Executing a Finisher in Modern Warfare 3

The process to do a Finisher is actually quite simple once you know what button to press and what situation allows for it. I will explain the process in the steps below:

  • First, you need to sneak up behind an unsuspecting enemy who has their back completely turned to you. Even if an enemy is slightly turned in your direction, the Finisher won’t work.
  • Once you’re totally behind an enemy, get as close to them as possible without bumping into them.
  • Then, press and hold your melee button.
  • If done correctly, your Operator will go into the Finisher animation.

There are a couple of things to remember when executing a Finisher. First, you can be shot and killed while in the middle of a Finisher animation, so I advise you to only do one when you know there are no other enemies around you.

Second, you want to ensure you are as close to an enemy as possible and remember to really hold the melee button. I only ever take my finger off the button once I see the animation play. If you release the button too early, all you will do is punch the enemy with your gun, which will obviously alert them to your position.

Every Operator you choose will come with a default Finisher. However, you can change that Finisher by going to the Operators menu in MW3 and hovering over any unlocked Operator. An option will pop up that allows you to see the Finisher you have equipped but also view other ones to change to. If you want to change your Finisher, click the option to view all of the available Finishers and then pick which one you want.

You can unlock new Finishers by unlocking Operators, going through Battle Passes, or purchasing store bundles in MW3.
