Yone teased on Riot’s newest animated feature

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Fans are riding the hype train as Riot Games teases the next champion through an anime-inspired trailer. The “Slain Swordsman” reveals details of his past through intense scenes, and fans now know who he really is. This is the first out of possibly many teases introducing Yone, the Masked Assassin, to League of Legends.

The official League of Legends Twitter post begins with “Every myth carries a seed of truth,” followed by the embedded trailer that introduces Yone as an “Ionian Myth.” Through previous leaks, fans already guessed that Yasuo’s brother was going to be the next champion. Yone seems like nothing more than a troubled swordsman, but his interactions with a terrifying demon reveal more than that.

The Masked Assassin

As Yone passes through a hazy, pastel-colored forest, he’s unaware of what’s to come. He follows a blue-tailed fox through giant tree branches and roads, eventually coming to a halt. What seemed like a serene place quickly turns black, and he’s suddenly consumed by evil energy. Out of the darkness appears statues of fallen Ionian figures, those who Yasuo failed to protect. Memories of the Noxian war seemed to come back to him as he falls to his knees in guilt. He’s then met eye-to-eye by a white-haired demon, eventually being consumed by its evil force. Unfortunately, his two swords weren’t able to save him, but that adds to his character development in the future.

Overall, the trailer is something new for Riot Games, as most of their features are 3D animated. Riot had already teased the anime-inspired short in their Anime Expo Lite panel, but no other details were leaked at that time. Now that we have more than enough information, fans can move on with the rest of their theories as more details begin to roll out.

Head on over to our Forums to let us know what you think Yone’s future abilities will be. Some Reddit users are stating his R could be a dash, just like in the trailer. Others are saying they may mimic his Legends of Runeterra card by stunning his enemies and striking them. Give us your opinions, and be sure to follow Daily Esports for more esports and gaming news!
