Player of the day: CTBC Shunn

Everyone is always rooting for minor regions when they play on the world stage and that is no different this year at Worlds 2022. With a team name like CTBC Flying Oyster, the team has to show up big and that’s what they did against 100 Thieves on Day 1. The Pacific Championship Series champs showed that even though PSG Talon are not here, there is a team that can play at a high level and although his name isn’t Chiu “Doggo” Tzu-Chuan, Chao “Shunn” Ying-Shun is a bot laner that people should fear. Going 10/0/1 on Kai’Sa, Shunn dismantled the entire 100 team and gave CTBC a win to kick off their Worlds 2022 campaign.

Most memorable moment: NA goes winless

Best quote: G2 POV

With EU striking first with Fnatic’s win over Cloud9 to open up the group stage at Worlds 2022, G2 Esports tried to make it two for two in EU wins on Day 1. However, Heo “ShowMaker” Su and DWG KIA put an end to the EU hype early and the Lolesports twitter highlighted what everyone was thinking during the match. Showmaker is a bad man.

Best clip: Breathe in Breathe out

In the biggest upset of the day, The League Pro League’s fourth seed Royal Never Give Up got the win against the League Champions Korea champions, Gen.G and a big reason why was the incredible performance from Chen “Breathe” Chen showing up big on Jax in his first ever group stage game. This 1v4 outplay by him wasn’t the only reason why RNG got the win but did feel like it spelt the beginning of the end for Gen.G.
