Vici Gaming wins Dota Epicenter Major after 3-2 slugfest against Liquid

The Dota Epicenter Major 2019 event just wrapped up, and Vici Gaming is taking home the prize. It didn’t come easy, however, as VG had to pummel their way through five games against Liquid. For their part, Liquid put up one of their best performances of the year in terms of mechanical skill and sheer aggression.

After dictating the flow of the entire match through intelligent map control, Liquid took game one. That extremely one-sided game was not an indication of where the round-of-fire was headed, however. In an impressive display of composure, VG managed to come back and seal the series with three wins to two. They took home the $350,000 first place prize, while Liquid won $170,000 at second place.

The Epicenter Major 2019 was the last event in the Dota 2018-2019 professional circuit. Liquid will get another chance at first place in August at The International 2019. Both teams are almost certainly competing. Until then, Liquid get the silver lining of having team member Amer “Miracle” al-Barkawi win the MVP award for the entire event.

Infamous disbands after loss

The one team who perhaps lost harder than Liquid was Infamous. The team was knocked out of the running in the opening round of Dota Epicenter Major 2019. Shortly afterward, team member Dominik “Black” Reitmeier announced on Twitter that the team had split up.

This leaves all of the ex-Infamous players scrambling to secure roster spots in other teams before The International 2019. Qualifiers for the event begin on July 3 and wrap up on July 15, and only six teams will make it into the pool through the qualifiers.

As the final pro circuit Dota event of 2019, The International will take place in Shanghai this year, lasting from August 20 to 25. The prize pool recently passed the $22 million mark and is set to break the record for the highest Dota prize purse in esports history.
