Valve releases Nvidia patch to address CSGO stuttering issues

Valve has released an Nvidia-centric patch for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO) addressing stuttering issues. Players have suffered through random game stuttering in all servers, including Valve, FACEIT, and ESEA. An influx of players reporting visible in-game stutters popped up in January 2020. At times, the stuttering would last only a few minutes, and other times, it was continuous. Despite the community harping on developers to fix the issue, Valve was silent for almost two months till recently.

Valve March 27 patch notes

Valve released pre-release patch notes on March 26. Their report stated they completed a build of CSGO that includes a fix for “some stuttering affecting NVIDIA users.” Additionally, developers implemented a “speculative fix” for a “rare crash” happening at the end of a match.

Developers released the build as an opt-in beta last night. Users interested in trying out the Nvidia fixes before March 27 were instructed to download the beta, accessible through the game property menu. CSGO‘s Twitter announced today the patch has officially released to all users.

The new CSGO build is being tested by the community now. Many users have stated a successful fix would be enough to bring them back to playing the game.

The stutter

Reddit user Kamekou posted a video showing intense micro stutters in a community DM server and what appears to be a retake server. Players like Kamekou reported game stuttering when previously unseen objects such as enemies entered their POV. It’s angering to experience stuttering in the middle of a fight that may cause you to lose the engagement.

Is it normal to have these "micro stutters" when I just start up the game or just join in a retake or DM server? from GlobalOffensive

The post garnered over 400 comments from Reddit users stating they’d experienced the stuttering starting after a January 2020 update. On the other hand, some players said they’d experienced the stuttering since earlier than 2017. The stuttering wasn’t isolated to low-end computers, rather affecting PCs all across the spectrum. Hopefully this new update remedies the issue as desired.
