Anna “SuperCakes” Donlon and Joe “Ziegler” Ziegler announced that June 2 will be the official release for Valorant, and the closed beta will come to an end on May 28 with the last queue taking place at 8:59 a.m. PT. With the closed beta ending, many users have been seeking clarity on what exactly will happen next, and now those answers are coming.

Valorant delays ranked, matchmaking rating (MMR) to be reset

When asked if there would be ranked at launch, PWYFF stated, “We’re not going to be launching WITH ranked, probably turning it on in a few weeks after once everything’s stable. Your ranked MMR is going to be reset, but the 20 match requirement isn’t.”

The Valorant developers have expressed their concerns before for having a stable environment for ranked. They delayed the addition of ranked for NA and EU servers until they knew it would be stable. Brazil, Korea, and Latin America (LATAM) received a trial ranked weekend as a test on the servers.

On the topic of MMR though, PWYFF commented on Reddit that your unrated MMR likely won’t be fully reset: “We’ll probably carry over some (maybe all) of your unrated MMR to keep the shark pool from eating the incoming fish.” There has been a lot of controversy regarding unrated MMR since casual players don’t want it to affect their ranked placements. PWYFF did reiterate the difference between unrated and rated MMR for launch though, saying, “Unrated MMR is completely separate from your ranked MMR.”

And as indicated above, if you’ve gotten to play ranked before, you won’t have to play an additional 20 matches to fulfill a requirement. However, new players will still be held to this 20-match minimum.
