DRX score an upset while Gen.G put LSB in their place.

The 2022 League of Legends Champions Korea summer season is well underway, with games happening five days a week. For fans that don’t have time to watch all the action but want to know what is going on, we at Upcomer are here to provide a daily recap of each day’s games. Here is what happened this Friday in the 2022 LCK summer season.

Gen.G take down LSB

Liiv SANDBOX is on a roll in the 2022 LCS Summer split so far; they might even have a real shot at Worlds 2022 as one of the LCK’s four seeds. Still, they came into their Week 6 match against Gen.G still down as heavy underdogs. Gen.G has been near unbeatable, save for their one loss at the hands of T1.

LSB were not phased in the slightest with their underdog status as they were not afraid to throw everything they had at Gen.G. LSB jumped out to an 11-4 kill lead and even were on Dragon Soul point 27 minutes into the game. However, they were actually still down in gold. With Gen.G taking Baron around that time, they firmly put themselves in the driver’s seat as their gold lead swelled. LSB tried their best to play aggressively winning multiple small skirmishes in a row, but the damage had already been done.

LSB’s base was in shambles as their small victories meant nothing. Even with that, LSB played to their lone win condition and saw an opening to make a last effort at trying to push Gen.G’s base. But they were too slow; before they even took a nexus turret, LSB were wiped a final time as Gen.G closed out the game.

After the crazy Game 1, LSB didn’t have much left in the tank. 20 minutes in Gen.G were the ones with the big kill lead 13-6 in their favor and they also had a 7k gold lead. That lead negated any sort of comeback attempt, especially due to Gen.G’s bot laner Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk being ridiculously fed on Jinx. In a game where he passed 2000 career kills in the LCK, Ruler ended the series with a 15/2/1 performance as Gen.G picked up the series sweep.

DRX defeat DK

The other match on Day 3 of Week 6 put the other two playoff contenders against each other. DK entered the day firmly in third place in the 2022 LCK Summer standings while DRX were safe in the playoff picture but at the bottom of it. DK were of course, still favorites to win,

Game 1 saw DRX look at the unique but lethal bot lane combination of Yasuo and Senna. The game was back on forth in the early game but DRX opened the game up with a team fight win around Baron 24 minutes in that put them up 9-4 in kills and ballooned their already 5k gold lead. Instead of looking to expand their lead, DRX simply just ended the game as DK had no answer for the push down mid-lane. DRX took Game 1 in just 27 minutes

DK flipped the script in Game 2 as they were the ones with a massive gold lead just 20 minutes in. As DRX fought against a 7k gold deficit, they couldn’t stop running into DK in their own jungle, constantly losing small fights in the mid-game. Even though DRX outclassed DK in the first game, DK managed to outclass them harder in Game 2 with an even quicker victory just a few seconds shorter than Game 1.

With both games so far just being super one-sided affairs, Game 3 looked like a repeat of Game 1. Thanks to DRX’s jungler Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon making countless plays as Lee Sin, DRX were again up in kills and gold, while also taking an early baron and the Dragon Soul point. Pyosik was simply outplaying DK’s Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu in every facet of the game. He had a way better stat line, he was up in farm and controlled every objective. Pyosik proved he wasn’t infallible by dying to DK right before the Dragon Soul fight, but Canyon turned around and made a bigger error; they walked into a brush blind around Baron, giving DRX a free objective. With Dragon Soul up for grabs once again, DRX were in full control as they forced DK into a bad spot — give up the soul or give up the base.

DRX made the decision easy for DK as they picked up Dragon Soul and the ace behind a Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu quadra kill on Jinx and that was the game; DRX walked into their base uncontested for the 2-1 series upset.

Week 6 of the 2022 LCK Summer split continues with Day 4 action on Saturday, July 23. Two more matches are on the schedule as Fredit BRION takes on T1 and KT Rolster goes up against Nongshim RedForce. The action begins at 4 a.m ET live on the LCK Twitch Channel.
