The AUG has a few different variants available to players in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer. The first one that players will have access to is the STB 556, which is one of the best assault rifles in the entire game. Next, players will unlock the MX9, the submachine gun version, and the HCR 56, the light machine gun variant. The HCR 56 is arguably more useful in Warzone 2, where players can take advantage of long sight lines. But it certainly has its uses in MW2, especially when players equip its best loadout.
The HCR 56 has received quite a fair amount of buffs since the initial release of MW2, making it a much more well-rounded weapon overall. While you will still face the limits of a light machine gun when using the HCR 56, it’s a balanced gun that can deal some serious damage at longer ranges.
With the right attachments, the HCR 56 has a tremendous damage range, little recoil, and a high rate of fire.
Best HCR 56 loadout in Modern Warfare 2
By default, the HCR 56 has average recoil control and below-average mobility, which is pretty much par for the course with most LMGs. I will be aiming to increase both of these stats with the HCR’s loadout to turn into more of a heavier rifle than a base LMG.
- Muzzle: Sakin Tread-40
- Barrel: 18″ Bruen Guerilla
- Optic: Cronen Mini Red Dot
- Underbarrel: FTAC Ripper 56
- Rear Grip: Bruen Q900 Grip
The list of attachments starts with the Sakin Tread-40 muzzle, which offers a significant boost to the HCR 56’s recoil control. The 18″ Bruen Guerrilla barrel, as well as the Bruen Q900 Grip, improves aim down sights time and sprint-to-fire time, making the gun much snappier and easier to use at closer ranges.

Rounding out the loadout is the FTAC Ripper 56, which provides extra stability, and the Cronen Mini Red Dot. While you can go with a longer range scope, I feel the Cronen Mini Red Dot gives you some flexibility to fight enemies at both close and long range.
As a final note, you can use the HCR 56 in the new Modern Warfare 3 and use this same loadout to great effect. However, you will need to change most of the rest of the class, as the perks have been entirely changed in the new multiplayer title. You can still use the same lethal or tactical as well as a similar secondary weapon. Of course, I suggest using some of the new content first so you can experience some of the fresh items in MW3.
